Study Abroad Spotlight: Meet Molly Gabaldo!

Molly in India

April 2014

Hometown: Bloomington, IL
Major: Nursing
Minor: Theology, Justice and Peace Studies
Where did you volunteer abroad? India
How long were you there? Almost 3 weeks

Why did you choose to volunteer in India?
India has always been a dream location for me. This particular program also presented an opportunity for me to serve with an organization that provides in-home hospice care to those who may not have access to healthcare which was truly incredible.

What is your favorite memory?
It is impossible to narrow it down to one memory. However, attending an impromptu Hindu wedding for a Ukrainian couple is definitely one of them.

How did your experience abroad impact you as a person?
It gave me an opportunity to be exposed to a culture vastly different than my own and push my perspectives and understandings of our world community.

What advice would you give to other students thinking about studying abroad?
Just go! Open yourself to every opportunity to be uncomfortable; those seem to be the moments when something pretty incredible happens.
