What is your major? I am a Speech, Communications, and Theatre Education major.
What SAU Productions have you been involved in?
I have been involved in Spamalot, Dakota Jones, Toy Camp, A New Brain, a few student-directed one-act plays and currently The Importance of Being Earnest.
What was your favorite job, and why?
My favorite theatre job was assistant directing at Bettendorf Middle School last year because it was my first time in a directing position and I worked with a group of really great kids that I looked forward to working with and seeing every day.
Who inspires you?
Dr. Seuss and my 8th grade teacher, Mrs. Royer. Dr. Seuss was a wise and funny man and my teacher was exactly who I want to be in my future.
What is your favorite play/musical and why? I don't really have a favorite play or musical because I think each one is unique in its own way but there are some plays I like more than others because of the message or the material.
What drew you to the Theatre and when?
I have been involved in theatre since I was in 6th grade because I had an older sister who sometimes got involved so it just made sense that I was too. But Mrs. Royer was the first teacher who sparked my interest in a way besides acting.
What is your favorite memory of the Theatre?
My favorite memories involving theatre would have to be seeing friends, classmates or teachers making headlines in their careers as actors and actresses. Sometimes it's seeing them in a movie, hearing about their appearance on Broadway and sometimes it's simply getting a job in the theatre they've always wanted to be.
Any words of wisdom or advice for future Theatre patrons?
I would just say "Be yourself!" Being involved in theatre gives you the chance to really show who you are and who you can be. It's a safe place to throw yourself out there and push your boundaries.
What will you miss the most about the SAU Theatre department?
I think I will miss the classes and the people most after I graduate. I won't necessarily miss the paperwork and reading we did in class, but I really enjoyed what we learned and experimented because the teachers push you to do your best. I will also miss getting to know people that share a similar passion and helping one another grow.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan on moving to the east coast, most likely Virginia, and getting a job. I hope that I can work right away as a creative writing teacher and a theatre director, but I'll guess I'll just have to see.
