Bill Parsons Message Spring 2014

04/14/2014

It is our pleasure to provide a newsletter for St. Ambrose students, alumni, and friends of the Department of Political Science and Leadership Studies.

Our annual newsletter highlights events and activities involving some of the many individuals associated with our Department. Our success is due to people with a strong commitment to and passion for the study of politics and law. In this and every newsletter you will see examples of these types of individuals.

The first featured article for this issue is devoted to Jane Folwell, who passed away in May, 2013. Mrs. Folwell established the first endowed academic Chair at St. Ambrose University, created for the purpose of supporting students interested in political Science and pre-law. Due to Jane's generosity, we are able to fully fund endeavors such as Mock Trial and Model U.N. Please take the time to read the feature about Jane Folwell's exceptional life.

You will also see examples of the great things current and former political science and pre-law students are doing-both in their own lives and in continued collaboration with the Department and in support of Departmental programs and activities. We've highlighted two of our recent graduates who managed campaigns on opposite sides of the political aisle during the 2010 mid-term election, yet they remain friends.

We are thankful for our alumni for your support of our programs. Your financial gifts and willingness to volunteer your time to support our current students is greatly appreciated. In this newsletter you will find just a few examples of the many ways SAU alumni help support our efforts. And, you will see examples of activities and achievements of our current students who are excelling both in and outside of the classroom.

Additionally, you will find highlights of the accomplishments of our faculty over the last year. The research and professional memberships of the Department's faculty are vital to providing our students a quality education.

Lastly, we welcome your ideas for future newsletter articles. We especially want to hear from our alumni and friends of the Department. Our current students benefit greatly from hearing about your experiences as they search for similar opportunities upon graduating from St. Ambrose University. Email your ideas to Dr. Bill Parsons.

Sincerely,
Dr. William W. Parsons, Chair and Folwell Chair
