SAU Women to Play Bluder's Hawkeyes

07/14/2014

Former St. Ambrose women's basketball coach and current University of Iowa coach, Lisa Bluder will welcome the SAU Queen Bees to Carver-Hawkeye Arena to play her Hawkeyes on Sunday, Nov. 9.

It is a preseason game that will have special meaning for a player on each roster.

St. Ambrose sophomore Brette Logic (below) likely will find herself defending her sister Samantha, a senior All-American for Bluder's perennial Big Ten title-contending Hawkeyes.

"I was shocked," Brette Logic said of her reaction when SAU coach Krista Van Hauen told her the game had been scheduled. "I thought she was kidding."

The Logic sisters have played against one another only once since high school, and, since Brette is spending the summer working out with her older sister, she said the likelihood of a trash-talking rivalry is minimal.

The chance to play in Carver-Hawkeye Arena will be a treat for Brette and all of her teammates, said Van Hauen. "A couple of years ago, we played at Indiana and that was a great experience," said the coach. "But with Iowa being so close and Lisa beginning her career here, this will be especially fun."

An alumni event centered on the contest is being considered.
