The St. Ambrose chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association raised more than $800 for a pair of charitable causes late in the spring semester.

The chapter consisting of Master of Speech-Language Pathology students, donated $563 for the Friendly Kids Corner, a daycare and preschool in Davenport that is affiliated with the Friendly House program. The money was used to purchase an iPad for children who attend or use the facility.

In addition, the group sold cupcakes in May to help support the Davenport Junior Theatre's Spectrum Theatre program, which provides opportunities for autistic children to develop and strengthen their voices onstage.

"The NSSLHA's focus is on enhancing student knowledge while serving our community," said chapter leader Andrea Jansen.
