Stage Crew Showdown
The "Techie Titans" team was comprised of Junior Amanda Zweibohmer, senior Robert Poston, and sophomores Allie Stecklein and Jackson Green. And, once again, St. Ambrose University Theatre came out as one of best stage crews in the Midwest.
The Stage Crew Showdown is a memorable event at the festival. Teams of four from many different schools compete in a light hang, costume quick change, knot tying, prop placement, and border hang and tie. It's a really intense competition, and there's even a spirit trophy awarded because schools create cheers and dress up to support their tech students.
Out of the 14 teams competing, four make it to the finals and SAU's team was one of those four!
"I felt incredibly honored," said team captain, Amanda Zweibohmer. "All of the teams here worked so hard to make it, and I'm glad we got to be among the four that go on."
Congrats Techie Titans!
Stage Management
Junior Shannon Rourke competed in the National Stage Management Fellowship. About 30 student stage managers from across the region brought their prompt script from a show that they stage managed for their school. Rourke brought her prompt script from the musical Working from earlier this year.
Competitors interviewed with Christopher Sadler, professor of stage management at the University of Oklahoma, and Tracy Armagost, assistant to the production director of the Santa Fe Opera.
Afterward, the students managed an event at the festival and received feedback on their work.
"I got to meet so many wonderful people and get some great feedback on my book," Rourke said. "I can't wait to take what I learned here and apply it to the next Ambrose show I stage manage!"
Rourke also received a Kennedy Center Region V Certificate of Achievement in Stage Management for her work on Working earlier this year. Senior Meghan McLaughlin received the same award for her work on last year's The Importance of Being Earnest.
