Q-C Symphony to Premiere SAU Faculty Composition in March

William Campbell

February 2015

Composed by William Campbell, PhD, associate professor and chair of music, Where the River Bends will be premiered in March. The piece will be part of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra's Masterworks V: American Tapestry concert, and was commissioned by the orchestra as part of its 100th anniversary celebration.

"I composed Where the River Bends as a musical depiction of any moment or scene when we are pleasantly surprised with beauty, as when we turn a corner or come over a mountain and our senses are awakened to simple grandeur," said Campbell. "It is intended to honor this American landscape and the people who live here with music that is pastoral and exuberant, peaceful and bold."

Concert Dates:

  • Saturday March 7, 8 p.m. - Adler Theater, Davenport, Iowa
  • Sunday March 8, 2 p.m. - Augustana College Centennial Hall, Rock Island, Ill.
