a gavelThe SAU Mock Trial Team recently placed second out of 28 teams at the National Invitational Tournament hosted by Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa. The team completed the tournament with a record of 7-1, the best performance by a St. Ambrose team at a major tournament in years.

The team began with a 1-1 split against Kansas State University. This was followed by 2-0 victories against Drake University B team, DePaul University and Drake University C. The SAU team lost its only ballot by one point.

"Given the outstanding field, including perennial powers of Lyola University, DePaul University, Loras College and Drake University, and that each round was power paired, the accomplishment of our team in going 7-1 is something we should all be proud of," Coach Henry Maruard noted.

Alyssa Daniel received top honors as an outstanding witness, while Captain Tyler Waugh and senior Alexa Thompson received honorable mentions in the outstanding attorney recognition.

The National Invitational is one of the oldest and most prestige mock trial tournaments in the country, with competing teams hailing from across the country.
