Nancy Hayes ATHENA Nominee

Nancy Hayes, PhD, professor and chair of English, was named an ATHENA Awards honoree by the Women's Connection and Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce. The honor recognizes women who are leaders in their business or profession; serve as a role model to women in their profession and in their community; display creativity and innovation and contribute these talents to the growth of their profession; and who contribute time and energy to community betterment.

Hayes has taught in the SAU English Department since 1999. Her work has been published in multiple academic and creative writing publications and she has presented academic papers throughout the US. Hayes has been nominated for Professor of the Year and received the Jim Mullins Arts Advocacy Award.

Hayes serves on numerous non-profit boards, including the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library Association, the Midwest Writing Center, the Davenport Schools Foundation and the Davenport Central High School Hall of Honor. Previously, Hayes sat on the Friends of Davenport Public Library board, and served as secretary of the Quad Cities Sports Center Association and the Nova Singers, vice president of the Museum of Art Foundation and president of the Friends of the Davenport Museum of Art. 

Hayes received her doctorate in comparative literature from the University of Iowa, Iowa City.
