Physical Education Majors Host Ability Fair

March 2015

In December the Physical Education majors hosted the first SAU Ability Fair in Lee Lohman Arena on Leo Kilfoy Court.

The fair focused on a variety of culturally-responsive pedagogies required to meet the needs of an array of diverse learners. The students created several interactive simulations, challenge stations, and physical activity alternatives designed to enhance awareness, empathy, and demonstrate some of the innovations that physical educators access, in an attempt to provide well-rounded educational experiences for a variety of learners.

Stations ranged from various physical impairments, aspects of psychological and mental wellness, physical activity through the lifespan, and barriers to communication and learning.

A variety of faculty and staff from the School of Education, the Office of Enrollment Management, Student Disability Services, the Student Success Center, Advising, and the Office of Intercultural Life, and of course, members of the Department of Kinesiology were present.
