Another successful show for the St. Ambrose main stage is complete. Glengarry Glen Ross stormed through the Galvin Fine Arts Center February 20-22.
Written by David Mamet, the play is about real estate agents who lie, cheat, and steal in a desperate attempt to sell undesirable property. The two-act play was directed by faculty member Dr. Corinne Johnson.
Plays written by David Mamet are considered some of the most difficult plays to perform, and Glengarry Glen Ross is no exception. Still, cast member Jonathan "JJ" Johnson said he was proud of the production.
"The show went really well," he said. "I think we left the majority of our audience feeling how David Mamet intended: confused and disgusted."
True, the play has some harsh subject matter, but it is an excellent exercise for actors of all ages.
"Playing someone older than you is hard, and that with the combination of 'Mamet speak' challenged me the most," Johnson said. "I can say it was my toughest show yet."
Stage manager Becca Brazel agrees that the show was a success.
"It was a hard-hitting piece, and I think this group of college men did a phenomenal job of bringing it to life," Brazel said.
The Irene Ryan nominees for Glengarry Glen Ross are junior Jordan McGinnis and sophomore Sam Jones. Good luck to both of them at KCACTF in 2016!
