Combined Sections Meeting 2015

03/30/2015

In February 2015, 36 DPT students along with seven faculty members traveled to Indianapolis, Ind., for the 2015 American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Combined Sections Meeting (CSM).

CSM involves four days of programming and events sponsored by the 18 specialty sections of the APTA. The exhibit hall has hundreds of vendors showcasing the newest technology and advances in the profession. Attendees can learn about the most up-to-date research findings at the poster and platform presentations. CSM also provides great networking opportunities and a chance to catch up with friends and colleagues.

At CSM this year, our faculty had a strong presence during the poster presentation sessions.

The following posters were presented by faculty from St. Ambrose University:

• iPad use in the 1st year of a DPT program: a Pilot Study by Nora Riley and Bryon Ballantyne (above).
• The Impact of Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service on Admission Demographics: One Program's Five-Year Experience by Barbara Ehrmann (left).
• Detection Of Cardiovascular System Issues In A Patient Referred For Balance Impairments by Karen Collins and Michael Puthoff.
• Intense In-home Physical Therapy 17 Years Post-Traumatic Brain Injury - A Case Report by Lynn Frank.

St. Ambrose University faculty also contributed to the educational sessions at CSM:

• Venous Thromboembolism and Heart Failure: Current Clinical Practice. Mike Puthoff was one of the co-presenters.
• Adding Power to the Aging Adult's Exercise Program. Mike Puthoff was the presenter.

The students who attended CSM said it was a great experience. They enjoyed the opportunity to learn from some of the foremost experts in physical therapy. Many were surprised by how much they already knew and how much of the information was a review of the topics covered in the SAU DPT curriculum.

SAU students also got the chance to interact with other students from all over the country, network with potential employers, and enjoy the city of Indianapolis.
