Faculty and many of Saturday's Master of Occupational Therapy degree recipients donned blue tennis shoes in a show of support for fellow MOT student Jen Kray.
Kray has battled mobility problems since suffering a brain bleed on a family weekend in Wisconsin in February. Tennis shoes have been her necessary footwear and Kray wore blue tennies herself when she crossed the stage, with the help of her father and boyfriend, at Friday's College of Health and Human Services Hooding Ceremonies for graduate students.
She was joined there, too, by friends and classmates in blue tennis shoes. "It just shows what a great support system she has at St. Ambrose," said MOT grad Katie O'Neil.
Kray will have to complete a few more requirements for her MOT degree, but the fact she was able to join her classmates on Friday is all the proof O'Neil and others need to know Kray will finish the job.
"She has just been incredible," O'Neil said. "She has the most positive attitude and it is amazing how far she has come and how hard she has pushed herself."
