A New Campus Gateway

Welcome Center

July 2015

The new St. Ambrose University Admissions and Welcome Center will provide prospective students and their families a warm and comfortable setting to get acquainted with SAU admissions counselors and St. Ambrose programs.

The Welcome Center also occupies a very visible and strategic place on campus, at the intersection of West Locust and Harrison Streets.

"The new Admissions Office and Welcome Center allows us to best serve prospective students and their families by making it easier for them to find us while getting to know us in a comfortable, modern facility that reflects our commitment to a quality educational experience," said John Cooper, the university's vice president for enrollment management. "The new center offers a welcoming atmosphere which signals to prospective students and their families that we value our relationship with them from the start."

Located in the completely refurbished building that formerly housed the Eye Care Pavilion, the new facility features a 3,000 square- foot welcoming space under the building's circular section. That includes a spacious lobby and a pair of individual conference rooms and a meeting room in the middle where programming can be held for groups of prospective students.

Offices for undergraduate and graduate admissions counselors and staff are located on two floors covering 7,000 additional square feet of office space. The Enrollment Data Center and its staff also have been relocated to the center.

The interior of the building was completely remodeled after the university took possession in May. The work was completed by the Russell Construction Co., which originally built the structure in 1989. The Welcome Center will enjoy a soft opening during Iowa Private College Week, Aug. 3-7.

"The spaciousness of the center gives faculty, staff, students, and coaches the opportunity to sit down and really get to know the wants, needs, and desires of future Ambrosians," Cooper said.
