What was your major?
Theatre and International Business
What year did you graduate?
2013
What did you do post graduation and what are you doing currently?
I bounced around a bit, but I've been teaching/directing youth all the way through. I interned right out of school, was hired as the Drama Coordinator for the Fox Valley Park District after that, and then was offered an Internship at Goodman Theatre this past spring. Currently, I am getting acclimated to my new home, and prepping for my graduate program. I moved to Dublin this past Monday, and I'll be starting my MA program in Cultural Policy and Arts Management next week.
What was your favorite memory from Ambrose?
Can I have more than one? I'm taking more than one. When they announced Oedipus was going to ACTF; watching my cast perform Touch for the first time; working in the scene shop; walking across campus to my early morning classes; nights at Mound St; talking with Cory in her office; and pizza strikes!
What do you miss most about the department?
I miss the accessibility and camaraderie. It is always a group effort to put up a show - but at Ambrose everyone who cared about theatre really, truly cared. The freedom of academic theatre allows for more risk, and a better opportunity to engage the entire team in the art. The professors are tirelessly passionate in their approach to teaching (not just instructing), and each is an inspiration as an artist, and as a person. I also miss class, but that's why I'm back at school...
What inspires you today?
Quality work, but also shows that don't quite get there but obviously have been worked hard on. Humanity, day-to-day interactions and adventures, nature, art museums, traveling.
What was your biggest post-SAU surprise?
That I think I want to move back to Davenport one day? And also that my career is not defined by anyone else but me.
Any advice for current students?
Don't ever tell yourself or anyone else something isn't possible. Go to class, don't quit, and use/appreciate the wealth of information and talent around you to the fullest. Be supportive, kind, and enjoy the next few years with these people!
