In January 2016, the St. Ambrose University Theatre Department will be heading to Bloomington, Minn., for the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF)!
KCACTF Region V is a week-long festival, Jan. 17-23, in which students from six states participate in workshops, productions, technical competitions, directing showcases, devised theatre, and professional auditions.
Included in the many events is the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Competition, in which seven Theatre students will be competing. Irene Ryan is an American actress best known for her role as "Granny" on the TV show The Beverly Hillbillies (1962-1971). Every year, the Irene Ryan Foundation awards 16 regional and one national scholarship. The regional scholarship winners (and their partners) receive $500 and the national winner receives $5,000 (their partner receives $1,000).
Each nominee must choose a partner and prepare two contrasting scenes and either a monologue or a song. Their performance cannot exceed six minutes.
