Jon Turnquist Addresses 2015 Winter Commencement

Jon Turnquist, a clinical assistant professor in the Master of Occupational Therapy program will address the graduating class at this year's winter commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 19.

The ceremony will begin 11 a.m. at the Davenport RiverCenter. A total of 291 degrees are to be conferred, including 90 graduate degrees and 37 doctoral degrees.

Turnquist graduated from St. Ambrose in 1992 with bachelor's degrees in occupational therapy and psychology. He spent seven years as a practicing therapist, working with patients with a wide variety of rehabilitation needs.

Turnquist joined the St. Ambrose in 1999, teaching occupational remediation and rehabilitation skills. He earned his certification as an assistive technology professional from the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America in 2006, and received his Master of Organizational Leadership degree from St. Ambrose in 2010.

He is a five-time first-place winner of the national Maddak Award for Assistive Technology Design, and serves as director of the St. Ambrose assistive technology house, Jim's Place. The house features technology and equipment that can enhance the lives of persons with disabilities.

Jim's Place opened in the fall of 2011 and since has provided a showcase for adaptive solutions and assistive technology and equipment than can enhance the lives of persons with disabilities.

As director of Jim's Place, Turnquist works with St. Ambrose students to continually find adaptive solutions to real-life human challenges.
