The late Bob Jurevitz wouldn't have wanted his son to win the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees football award given annually in honor of the iconic Bees fullback's legendary toughness and leadership on the basis of his name alone.
And that was definitely not the case when the Keaton Jurevitz was honored with the Bob Jurevitz Award on Dec. 13.
In 2012, Keaton Jurevitz chose to attend St. Ambrose just months after his father died after a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Wearing the No. 44 that Bob Jurevitz '85 rode to All-American status and a number of SAU records, Keaton overcame a freshman season-ending knee injury and a change of positions from linebacker to defensive line and enjoyed a strong senior season.
"Keaton is a great example of all the characteristics that the Bob Jurevitz Award represents. He is a great leader with a tremendous work ethic that is well respected and loved by his teammates and coaches," said SAU football coach Mike Magistrelli.
