Chris Martin, PhD

March 2016

This academic year, the St. Ambrose Master of Social Work program welcomed a new bee to their hive. Dr. Chris Martin joined the Social Work faculty as an assistant professor in the fall of 2015.

She earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology, her master's in Social Work, and her PhD in Social Work with a concentration in Sociology all from the University of Iowa. Before coming to St. Ambrose, she worked in multiple social work settings, but her favorite field so far has been in child welfare practice when she did in-home family therapy.

You can find Dr. Martin during her office hours or in some of the classes she is teaching this year including Generalist Practice II for foundation students and Empowerment Practice I for concentration students. She will also be teaching Diversity and Social Systems during the summer as well as the International Social Work course in Ecuador. Dr. Martin also serves as a faculty field liaison for 10 MSW students.

Dr. Martin believes that one's strive for perfection shouldn't stifle their passion.

"Being a successful social worker is less about what you memorized from course work than it is about how you treat individuals in practice," she states.

Dr. Martin is excited to be apart of the St. Ambrose community and we are happy to have her. Stop in and meet our new Assistant Professor, Dr. Chris Martin.
