The St. Ambrose Theatre Department is proud to present their final studio show of the academic year: Orphans written by Lyle Kessler. This production is directed by junior Rachael Pribulsky and includes the talents of seniors Jonathan "JJ" Johnson and Jordan McGinnis, along with sophomore Brian Leibforth. With a modern, punk-rock interpretation, Orphans is sure to be an intriguing production that will hold audience's attention until the very end.
Orphans is the story of two brothers, Treat (McGinnis) and Phillip (Liebforth). After the death of their mother, the hot-headed Treat locks his brother, Phillip, away from the outside world in their run-down Philadelphia row house. The two brothers survive on their own for years until the night Treat attempts to kidnap the sly gangster from Chicago, Harold (Johnson). Being an orphan himself, Harold decides to take the boys under his wing. Chaos ensues as personalities clash, realizations are made, and hearts are broken. Orphans is a story of love, betrayal, and most importantly, brotherhood.
CAST
Treat.... Jordan McGinnis
Phillip.... Brian Leibforth
Harold.... JJ Johnson
The cast already is working hard in rehearsals to learn about their characters and create a meaningful show.
"I know it is going to be difficult fully getting into the character of Treat," McGinnis said. "Although Treat and I have a lot in common, there are many things that differ. Mostly it is the anger that Treat has, although this is something I lived with earlier in life. Hopefully I can bring a side to Treat that isn't always angry and be someone that the audience can actually sympathize, or even empathize with!"
Director Rachael Pribulsky is excited to work with such a dedicated and enthusiastic cast.
"It's actually pretty hard to believe that this show is finally happening," Pribulsky said. "I have been researching, planning, and scheming since I chose it last March. I could not have asked for a better team of people to work with both on and off the stage. Really, anybody patient enough to deal with my crazy, and sometimes manic, ideas are people you cannot help but love and enjoy working with. With the level of commitment and talent brought to the table by every single person, we are certainly in store for something truly epic."
Orphans will be presented in the Galvin Fine Arts Center Studio Theatre on March 31 and April 1 at 7:30 p.m., and April 2 at 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Galvin Box Office, by phone at 563-333-6251, or online. All tickets are $6.
