Rebecca Payne

Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education
Class of 2015

Rebecca hopes to instill her love of service in her students.

"While I was in the teacher education program at St. Ambrose, I had the opportunity to do practicum hours in a variety of different settings, from lower income communities to upper middle class communities as well as public and private schools.  The experiences that I had at all of the different schools really showed me that no matter where I ended up teaching, the students still deserve the best education that you can give them no matter what kind of situation they come from.

"One thing that I found in all of the schools that I had the pleasure of working with, Ambrose included, is that they all would help their neighbors, whether it be collecting canned food for the local food pantry or clothes for the homeless. And that is what I want to instill in my students.

"I always thought that I wanted to be a teacher in a public school in a lower elementary classroom, but this fall, I will be starting my teaching career as a multi-age teacher, teaching 4th and 5th grade in a private Catholic school and I couldn't happier. And I know that I want to instill the same love of social justice that I saw in all of those classrooms into the hearts of my students."
