It's Galvins Time!

group of people on stage

The Tempest cast

March 2017

You read that right: The Galvins are right around the corner. In only a few short months, it will be "that time again" to rewind on the productions of the 2016-17 academic year. The Galvins will allow us to time travel back to the productions of Agnes of God, The Tempest, The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), The Realistic Joneses (March 30, 31, & April 1), and Richard the Third (April 21, 22, & 23).

The Galvins are a time for actors, directors, and technicians to reflect on the previous productions that he/she has been involved in. Humor will be in the air the whole night, as typically, awards are handed out to a cast member or technician for something hysterical, over-the-top, jaw dropping, or many other adjectives that the director decides that the actor or technician did that stood out the most. Even though the Galvins are mostly humorous, it is also a time to reflect on the growth each student has embarked on his/her journey at St. Ambrose; a slideshow is used to reflect on the images from each show.

Many seniors would say The Galvins are bittersweet. Freshmen might remember attending The Galvins their first time and walking in not knowing what to expect. Almost immediately, the night changes from nerves and questions, to excitement and anticipation. Each year at The Galvins are spent laughing, catching up with friends, and remembering the fun productions that the cast and crew did not think they were going to make it through. The Galvins is an amazing event that brings everyone together and shows the true meaning of the theatre department; family.

This is a night you won't want to miss. The theme for this year's event is to be determined, but it will not fail to disappoint. Past themes have been The Great Gatsby and Harry Potter. The people behind this amazing event are the members of the Callboard: senior class representative Sam Jones; junior class rep Kayla Lansing; sophomore class rep Hannah Donovan; and freshman class representative T.J. Green. The faculty who help with this fun event are Dr. Cory Johnson, Daniel Rairdin-Hale '04, and Kris Eitrheim. These wonderful people work very hard to put this wonderful night together and to make it a night that is filled with laughter and joy.

Don't miss the Galvin's this year! It will be filled with friendship, laughter, memories, and humor. So mark your calendars, and put on that smile, because the Galvin's will be here before you know it.
