Dancing Together, Exceeding a Goal

Dance Marathon executive council

The Dance Marathon 5 Executive Board has some fun.

April 2017

They danced. They sang. They laughed. They cried.

And then they danced, sang, laughed and cried some more.

In the end, 13 marathon hours on Saturday, April 1 at the Rogalski Center — combined with 13 months of planning and other fund-raising efforts — helped the 600-strong SAU Dance Marathon 5 team earn nearly $224,000 for The Children's Miracle Network and the University of Iowa Stead Children's Hospital. That number exceeded their ambitious target goal of $200,000.

Since Spring 2012, when SAU's unofficial debut of Dance Marathon came together in a matter of 10 weeks, St. Ambrose students have raised nearly $547,000 for the cause. Ambrosians also have aided and befriended dozens of children fighting serious illness at the U of I hospital, as well as the families of those young patients.

Their efforts have helped St. Ambrose to a No. 8 national ranking among schools of 15,000 or fewer students who participate in the Dance Marathon network.
