Alumni, current students and supporters donated $193,980 to the new Wellness and Recreation Center during the April 2017 SAU Day of Giving campaign. That surpassed the original $135,000 goal described by the #135K2day hashtag-and by a considerable amount.

Margaret Babbitt, director of annual giving, described the response as evidence of the past supporting the future. "SAU alumni appreciate the impact philanthropy had on their education and student experience, and they want to ensure current and future students have the same opportunities," Babbitt said.

Plus, she noted, "All of our alumni are very excited about this new building."

Alumni also realized their gift, of any amount, makes a difference in various ways, Babbitt said.

"The number of donors we have is as important as the dollars we raise," she said. "That's because the percentage of alumni who give impacts many things, from university rankings to the decision of professors to join the SAU community. All of it works together and results in the best for St. Ambrose."

Babbitt said next year's Day of Giving will support the Ambrose Annual Fund, as it has in years past.

"This was our fourth Day of Giving and each year more of our alumni have stepped up. Next year should be fun," she said.
