The first SAU mainstage production of the 2012-2013 season, the faculty/staff/student/alumni production of George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart's classic comedy You Can't Take it with You, is well on its way to being a fully realized production.
The entire team met for the first time August 24 for a dinner to reconnect and meet all members of the cast and crew. After an evening of catching up, the cast did their first readthrough of the script as a group.
"It's going to be an amazing show," said Jim Seward '82, who will be playing the part of Paul. "It's wonderful to see all these creative minds working together on one stage."
Rehearsals are underway, some scheduled for twelve hours at a shot! But, the cast has come together for the love of theatre and the magic of the SAU theatre experience. Dave Bonde '93 says he's back because of the support he's found in the SAU theatre department.
"St. Ambrose gave me family and community at a time when I needed them most," says Bonde. "I'm happy to do whatever I can to support their continued work."
With only days left before opening, the cast is prepared to show the world the fruits of their two weeks of combined labor (not to mention months of preparation before!).
The show will open in Allaert Auditorium in Galvin Fine Arts Center this Friday, September 7 through Sunday, September 9; Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday performance is at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for faculty/staff/alumni/senior citizens, $15 for non-SAU students, $15 for groups, and free for SAU students with a valid student ID.
To reserve your tickets, call the Galvin Box Office at 563-333-6251. All proceeds go to the Michael Kennedy Theatre Scholarship.
