The St. Ambrose Fighting Bees 15-game winning streak ended, and their season with it, with a 75-72 overtime loss to Marian (Ind.) in the opening round of the NAIA Division II National Championships in Point Lookout, Mo. Senior Chris Donnelly missed a 3-point bid with seconds left to send the game to a second overtime. Marian's Alex Sylvester hit a 3 with a second left in regulation to force the the overtime.
St. Ambrose hit just 3 of 24 3-point tries in the contest and was outrebounded 41-26, but led by seven points with juts under 4 minutes remaining. The loss was the first since Jan. 11 for Coach Ray Shovlain's Bees, who finish the season 25-9. Mike Kennedy had 20 points and Donnelly netted 18 in the final games of the four-year starters' careers.
