A Leap of Faith

May 2016

maureen marrandino

A letter from Spring 2016 Master of Speech-Language Pathology graduate Maureen Marrandino to MSLP Program Director Elisa Huff:

"As a pregnant woman, I left my full-time music therapy position to take post-Bacc courses online at Utah State University. This prepared me for entry into a graduate school I had not yet been accepted to, and there were so many unknowns! We trusted that somehow God would grant me acceptance, the first time I applied, into grad school.

"While holding my 3-month-old daughter in my arms, we received the acceptance letter from St. Ambrose. I told Penny, 'You'll be almost 2 and a half when I graduate.' It was hard to imagine my baby as a toddler in the moment.

"I've grown so much as a human being. We learned to budget like never before. I have a new found empathy for those applying for government assistance. Now, less than a month from graduation, all the efforts are paying off. I passed my board exam, and am applying for state licensure. Next I will apply for jobs in the schools. I look forward to serving students as a speech-language pathologist while incorporating my music therapy scope of practice too! God is so good!"
