We know that each student who wishes to return to St. Ambrose University to finish their degree comes to us with a unique set of circumstances. We understand that, and are here to work specifically with you to get you to the graduation stage. Below are some frequently asked questions that we hope will answer some of your initial questions.
Please feel free to call one of our returning student advisers to discuss the options that are available to you as you explore returning to St. Ambrose.
- What are the requirements to return to St. Ambrose?
Former St. Ambrose students who have left the university for one semester are required to fill out the Returning Student Form and provide transcripts for any other school they have attended since leaving the university. To be fully accepted back to the university, students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 since leaving.
- What if my GPA is below a 2.0?
Students with a GPA below 2.0 may fill out the Returning Student Form for evaluation, and may be able to return to classes under the provisional guidelines.
- Is there a cost to apply to return to St. Ambrose?
No. There is no application fee to fill out the Returning Student Form to begin the process of coming back to the university to finish your degree.
- Do I need to enroll in the same degree program I was taking when I left the university?
No. We understand that life and career goals change, and we can develop a degree completion plan that aligns with your goals now-including a bachelor's program tailored specifically to you.
- I have a financial hold on my account. Can I still return?
Let's talk. There are ways that we can work together to devise a financial aid plan for you.
- I had scholarships when I left. Do I get them back?
St. Ambrose is committed to helping you fund your education. Because every circumstance is different, we can sit down with you to evaluate the scholarships, grants and financial assistance you received when you were a student, and determine what kind of financial aid package we may be able to offer to you today. In addition, special scholarships may be available for students who have completed an associate's degree at a community college.
- How do I know what classes I need to graduate?
We will sit down one-on-one with you to evaluate what classes and how many credits you need to graduate, and help you set up a plan to complete those courses and credit hours. We may be able to offer credits for life, work and military experience.
- How do your classes fit into my already busy life?
We have heard loud and clear that students looking to return can only do so if we offer a mix of online, hybrid, evening and weekend classes-in addition to our traditional main campus courses. St. Ambrose is steadily adding new online courses to our schedules to meet students' needs. We will work with you to put together a class schedule that fits your life.
- How do I start the process?
Fill out the online Returning Student Form (it's quick and easy) or call one of our returning student advisers to get started!
- Do you offer credit for work experience?
Yes! We can sit down with you and evaluate your previous work and life experience. You may also qualify for credit for military experience.
