What to know about Supplemental Instruction:

  • Supplemental Instruction (SI) targets historically difficult courses
  • Provides an environment for developing essential academic and learning skills
  • The SI leader attends all lectures
  • The SI leader is trained in specific teaching/learning theory and techniques
  • Assistance begins early in the term before students encounter academic difficulties
  • SI leaders do not lecture; they direct collaborative exercises that encourage learning
