Financial Aid: Eligible students can use their entire SAU financial aid package (excluding work study grants) for one semester.  

Note: A minimum GPA of 3.2 is required. Students may not participate in this program for their final semester of study.

Program Description

The Irish American Scholars Program enables SAU to nominate up to three top students to apply for a semester's study at one of four participating institutions in Northern Ireland.  Students can rate their order of preference from this list of schools:

Queen's University Belfast is one of the top 20 research institutions in the United Kingdom. Best for students seeking General Education, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Creative Writing, Economics, Finance, History, Literature, Management, Mathematics, Music, Political Science, International Studies, Physics. Most students will find appropriate subjects here. 

The University of Ulster has a national and international reputation for excellence. With four distinct campuses across Northern Ireland, students are placed at a specific campus based on their field of study.

St. Mary's University College specializes in liberal arts and teacher training, and is integrated into the larger Queen's University system. In 2011, St. Mary's was ranked third amongst all universities in the United Kingdom for student satisfaction with their overall university experience. Best for primary and secondary education majors. 

Stranmillis University College, also within the system of Queen's University Belfast, is highly recognized for its teacher training curriculum. Best for early childhood, primary, and secondary education majors.

How to Apply

1. Complete the online application at the SAU Study Abroad Portal and submit your $500 application deposit to the Center for International Education by January 27, 2013.  Make checks payable to St. Ambrose University.  The application deposit is deducted from the total program cost. 
2. Complete the Irish American Scholars Program Application by January 27, 2013. 

* If you are not accepted into the program, the application deposit is refundable.
* If you are accepted, the application deposit is non-refundable after April 1, 2013.

Payment Details

• $500 application deposit due by January 27, 2013. 
• Remaining tuition balance due by August 10, 2013.
• Make checks payable to St. Ambrose University.
• Please submit your final payment directly to Student Account Services by August 10, 2013.
• The final tuition payment is non-refundable after August 10, 2013.
