Program description
This course is designed to increase the cultural sensitivity of students by introducing them to nursing and health promotion practices in Ecuador. During this experience students will attend a presentation by a native medicine provider, and visit a public clinic hospital, nursing school, and orphanage. A volunteer
experience at a rural health clinic will also provide students with opportunities to interact with the healthcare providers and Ecuadorians and learn more about the unique health care practices and accomodations in a variety of settings. Through a partnership with the CEDEI elementary school the nursing students will assess learning needs, plan and deliver a class on a relevant health promotion topic. Cultural sensitivity is also enhanced by a home stay with an Ecuadorian family.
