Program description

Explore the history and heritage of the theatre of England and the theatre of Ireland. Study ranges from Elizabethan England through Ireland's finest playwrights. Investigations include study of dramatic forms and styles, production practices, and theatre in performance. Work in the course includes historical reading and research, script analysis, performance/audience experience, and critical analysis and response.

Attend a broad range of theatre in performance in London, Dublin, and Stratford. Productions at flagship national companies complement the productions of fringe and off-fringe companies. Explore the contexts of history, popular culture, theatre business and training. Trace history from medieval street pageants through Shakespeare's Globe, exploring the culture which surrounds theatre practice in London's West End and South Bank, and following the quest for an Irish national theatre. Lively post-performance discussion encourages students to make connections between the world of theatre and the culture into which it is woven, both past and present.

How to apply

Priority Deadline: April 13, 2012
Step 1: Complete the online application. 
Step 2: Submit a $500 deposit to the Center for International Education (Cosgrove Hall, lower level). Make checks payable to SEMINARS INTERNATIONAL.
Step 3: Turn in a completed Liability Form to Cosgrove Hall, lower level.
Step 4: Pay your remaining balance by November 1. Turn in your payment to Cosgrove Hall, lower level. Make checks payable to St. Ambrose.

Applications will be accepted until October 1.
Students that apply after the April 13 Priority Deadline may find that their desired program is full.

Application and payment details
  • Applications will not be reviewed until all application materials have been received.
  • The $500 deposit is deducted from the total program cost.
  • If you are not accepted into the program, or if the program is cancelled, the application deposit is refundable.
  • If you are accepted, the application deposit is non-refundable after September 17.
  • The final payment is non-refundable after November 1.
  • Failure to meet deadlines may jeopardize your place in the program.
