Transferring Credits

St. Ambrose accepts up to 90 credit hours from four-year colleges and universities and up to 60 credit hours from two-year or community colleges. Students who have earned an AA or AS (Associate of Arts or Associate of Science) degree from a two-year college typically enter with junior status. The Records and Registration Office, along with your major department advisor, will determine which of your transfer credits fulfill general education requirements and major requirements.

Articulation agreements

• St. Ambrose has "2+2" transfer agreements with several programs within Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (Scott, Clinton and Muscatine) and Black Hawk College in Moline, Ill.
• The university also has course equivalency information for Eastern Iowa, Blackhawk and Kirkwood Colleges. Check with the Admissions Office or the individual community college for more information.

Students transferring with an A.A. or A.S. will have completed our General Education program with the exception of the following:

• Wellness Concepts (1 credit)
• P.E. activity course (1 credit)
• Information Literacy (1 credit)
• Foreign Language (0-11 credits depending on the amount of high school foreign language taken)
• Theology (3 credits)
• Philosophy (3 credits)

Academic standing

Freshman: 0-29 credits
Sophomore: 30-59 credits
Junior: 60-89 credits
Senior: 90 and more credits

AA/AS Degrees

Students who have earned an AA or AS (Associate of Arts or Associate of Science) degree from a two-year college typically enter with 60 credit hours and junior status. Students who have earned an AAS (Associate of Applied Science) degree are encouraged to consider SAU's Bachelor of Applied Management Technology degree.
