I love to meet students who are excited for this new journey in their life, and are open to new experiences, both on-campus and off. Because St. Ambrose is a small liberal arts university, students have so many opportunities to explore, whether it be learning a new foreign language, auditioning for a play, or studying abroad.
Melissa is a self-proclaimed "townie," born and raised in Davenport. She is excited to introduce the QC Area and St. Ambrose University to any and all who will listen! While in college, Melissa held work-study positions in the Admissions Office, as well as in Residence Life as an RA.
After graduating, Melissa moved to Anchorage, Alaska for a short while, and then to Iowa City, but finally decided that the QC is where she wanted to be after all! She enjoyed her Admissions work-study experience so much that she decided helping students throughout their college search would be the perfect job for her.
The type of students Melissa wants at St. Ambrose are those who have the motivation and dedication to combine extracurricular activities and community service with their studies, because it is so important to possess those time-management skills while attending college. They should also have a great attitude, a giving heart, and a true desire to achieve their goals at St. Ambrose!
Everything! I feel so fortunate to wake up each day, and be excited to go to work. Our job as Admissions Counselors is so fast-paced, and ever-changing. There are always new prospective students to meet, new high schools to travel to, and even new things to learn about SAU as a campus community. College is such an important milestone in students' lives, so I really enjoy being a part of their search process, sharing my experiences, and helping them choose the right school for them.
I was a vocal performance major in college, so singing is something that I love to do when I'm not working. I currently sing with Quad City Choral Arts, which is a professional ensemble that performs in the QC Area. I also try to stay healthy, so something else I enjoy doing is running. I am currently preparing to run the QC Half Marathon, which is coming up very soon! I also enjoy spending time with family and friends, especially my husband Kevin and miniature dachshund Twinkle.
I have come to realize what an amazing place St. Ambrose is to live and learn. As a new staff member, everyone that I have come in contact with has been extremely friendly and welcoming. It took me only a matter of hours to feel at home, and I hope you feel the same way when you come to campus!
Is St. Ambrose affordable?
And Melissa's answer: The answer to that question is "yes"! More than 90 percent of our students receive some sort of financial aid, whether it be academic, fine arts or athletic scholarships; grants; low-interest student loans; or work study. Academic scholarships range from our University Grant, to athletics and arts scholarships, to a full-tuition scholarship. After you apply and file the FAFSA during your senior year of high school, we will let you know what your individual financial aid package looks like!
