For the past 16 years, the St. Ambrose University Upward Bound program has helped many deserving, low-income young people achieve the dream of a college education. Regrettably, as of Aug. 31, 2012, the program at St. Ambrose ceased to exist due to a denial of federal funding during the last grant review. More than 250 UB programs across the United States, including 40 percent of Iowa's existing programs, were disbanded due to a denial of funding by the U.S. Department of Education.
It is our sincere hope that the legacy of the St. Ambrose UB program continues to bear fruit. We believe that its alumni will enjoy rewarding careers and will pass on to their own children the dream of obtaining a college education. It has been a privilege to serve the Upward Bound participants as part of our university mission.
