The Most Rev. John R. Quinn, retired archbishop of San Francisco, will give the Catholic Studies Lecture, "The Reform of the Papacy," at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 10, at Christ the King Chapel on the St. Ambrose University campus. The lecture is free and open to the public. Quinn is the author of the "The Reform of the Papacy: The Costly Call to Christian Unity," published in 1999. The book is a response to an invitation issued to the bishops of the world by Pope John Paul II in his encyclical "That They May Be One," on Christian unity. Prior to publishing his book, Quinn completed a visiting fellowship at Campion Hall, Oxford University, England, where he delivered the centennial lecture. He served as archbishop of San Francisco from 1977 to 1995. He has served as president of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, as a member of three international synods in Rome, as a papal delegate for religious life in the United States and as a member of a papal commission of the Archdiocese of Seattle.
