The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) honored Dave Baker, (KALA-FM Radio) as Grand Marshal of the LULAC Mexican Independence Day Parade. The LULAC Council #5285 also awarded Dave with an Excellence in Broadcasting Award.

Jim Bang, PhD, (Economics) conducted research and wrote journal contributions in the field of economics, machine learning, and nursing:

• Co-wrote the book "Identifying the Complex Causes of Civil War: A Machine Learning Approach" (Springer)
• Presented research from the article "Do remittances reduce women's acceptance of domestic violence? Evidence from Pakistan" at the 2021 Southern Economic Association 91st Annual Meeting in November.
• Co-wrote three articles:
  • "Nonlinear association of nurse staffing and readmissions uncovered in machine learning analysis." Health Services Research, July 2021.
  • "Validating Game-Theoretic Models of Terrorism: Insights from Machine Learning." Special issue of Games on the Economics of Conflict and Terrorism, December 2021.
  • "Effectiveness of home health care in reducing return to hospital: Evidence from a multi-hospital study in the US." International Journal of Nursing Studies, July 2021.

Kyle Bohnert, PhD (Kinesiology) co-wrote two articles accepted for publication: "The IRE1/XBP1 signaling axis promotes skeletal muscle regeneration through a cell non-autonomous mechanism" for eLife and "MyD88-mediated signaling intercedes in neurogenic muscle atrophy through multiple mechanisms" for the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.

Forthcoming in 2022 are two articles co-written by Myungjin Chung, PhD (Marketing) in the Journal of Business Research ("Consumer Self-Uncertainty Increases Price Dependency") and Psychology and Marketing ("Color Darkness and Hierarchy Perceptions: How Consumers Associate Darker Colors with Higher Hierarchy").

The International Journal of Accounting and Information Management accepted an article co-written by Mike Cipriano, PhD, CPA (Accounting), "Value Relevance and Market Valuation of Assets Measured using IFRS and US GAAP in the US Equity Market" (December 2021). The authors attempted to reconcile  reporting differences between two different regulatory bodies.

Matthew JM Coomber, PhD (Theology) was an invited speaker twice this past semester and wrote an article and conference paper:

• Invited Speaker: "Interpreting the Psychology of Privilege: The Modern Relevance of Contempt in the Hebrew Bible." Delivered to the Society of Old Testament Studies, University of Sheffield, England, July 2021
• Panelist: Delivered "St. Ambrose and His Biblical Response to Empire" as part of the "Putting Ambrose at the Center of St. Ambrose University panel." October 2021

Ann Garton, DNP, RN, FPCC, CNE (Nursing) was conferred with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) with a focus in global population health by Indiana Wesleyan University. She presented her doctoral work "Growing Healthy Together: A Refugee Health and Wellness Program Through Person-Centered Care" at the Wisconsin League of Nursing Conference. Garton edited chapters for Role Development in Professional Nursing Practice, 6e (Jones & Bartlett Learning). Planetree International® recognized Dr. Garton as a Fellow in Person-Centered Care. Through her work with the SAU Institute for Person-Centered Care (IPCC) she secured a $15,000 grant from the Quad Cities Community Foundation to support continuing education in person-centered care.

Philip Goldfarb-Styrt, PhD (English) published a book, Shakespeare's Political Imagination: The Hsitoricism of Setting (Bloomsbury) and was a regional winner in the Maria. W. Faust Sonnet Contest with "Reading Matter." Additionally Dr. Goldfarb-Styrt also wrote sonnets for Capsule Stories (Winter 2021) and Wingless Dreamer's Dreamstones of Summer (Fall 2021).

The College and Research Libraries News published Stella Herzig's (Library) article "Broadcasting the Framework: Podcasting in a one-credit information literacy class."

You may have seen Cory Johnson, PhD (Theatre) when she directed the musical "Disenchanted" this fall at the Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse.

Ella Johnson, PhD, (Theology) presented the paper "The Role of the Body in Sapiential Theology: Gertrude of Helfta and William of Saint-Thierry" at the 56th International Congress on Medieval Studies in May and then published this paper as an article, "Eucharistic Theology and Anthropology in Gertrude of Helfta and William of Saint-Thierry: On the Sense of Taste," in the academic journal, Magistra. Dr. Johnson's post "Providing a Stabilizing Scaffold for Students while Teaching about Justice during Unjust and Uncertain Times" was published as a continuing contributor to the Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion blog series. She also delivered the parish talk "Eucharist: An Extraordinary Encounter" for the Keokuk, Iowa, deanery (Oct. 20, 2021).

Emily Kingery, PhD, (English) composed several prize-winning, written works over the past several months:

• 2021 Pushcart Prize nomination, Midway Journal.
• Finalist, Harbor Editions Chapbook Open Reading Period. Fall 2021.
• Semi-finalist, Finishing Line Press, New Women's Voices Series. Fall 2021.
• Semi-finalist, Iron Horse Literary Review, 2022 National Poetry Month Contest.
• Poetry published in Mason Street Review Community Room, Midway Journal, Midwest Review, Plainsongs, Thimble Literary Magazine, and These Interesting Times: Surviving 2020 in the Quad Cities (MWC Press).
• "Tricks," Sidereal Magazine, Issue 8.

For the 2021 Financial Management Association's (FMA) conference, Imtiaz Mazumder, PhD (Finance) served on a program committee and chaired a session on Corporate Bond. He also served on a program committee for the 2022 Consortium on Asset Management and Fintech.

Tammy Norcross-Reitzler, MPTh (Campus Ministry) earned her Professional Certification in Campus Ministry in November from the Catholic Campus Ministry Association.

The Harvard Business Review published an article by Arun Pillutla, PhD (Management) and Gary Wolbers '12 DBA, "What drives growth in midsize firms" (June 2021).

Lisa Powell, PhD, (Theology) wrote two articles that were published in Summer 2021: "Exhibitionary Commerce, The Construction of Whiteness, and the Theological Sideshow" in Theology Today and "Disability and Resurrection: Eschatological Bodies, Identity, and Continuity" in the Journal of the Society of Christian Ethics.

Sarah Rissler, PhD (Student Success Center) gave virtual presentations on "Supporting Language Learners" (Heartland Region CRLA Lunch and Learn Professional Development)) and "Using Culture to Connect with Reluctant Language Learners" (National TESOL Conference).

Faculty of the Occupational Therapy department presented on fieldwork experiences at the American Occupational Therapy Association Education Summit in St. Louis this past October. Participants were Jill Schmidt, OTD, MS, OTR/L, Lynn Kilburg, DHSc, MBA, OTR/L, Angela McCombs, OTD, OTR/L, Kami Holst, OTD, OTR/L, Stephanie Phares, MOT, OTR/L, Jenni Petersen, OTD, OTR/L, Anne Lansing, OTD, MOL, OTR/L, and Amy Noble, OTD, MSOT, OTR/L. Their presentation was about Developing and Implementing Level I Fieldwork Experiences to Meet Student Learning Objectives While Enhancing Faculty Scholarship and Service.

Angela Rekers-Power, PhD (Education) co-authored the book "Outdoor Learning and Play: Pedagogical Practices and Children's Cultural Formation" (2021, Springer).

Susa Stonedahl, PhD (Engineering and Physics) co-wrote an article for the journal Environmental Research Letters, "Hydrologic controls on the accumulation of different sized microplastics in the streambed sediments downstream of a wastewater treatment plant (Catalonia, Spain)" (November, 2021).

In the latest version of Standards of Care for the Health of Transsexual, Transgender, and Gender Nonconforming People, the research of Rachael Suddarth, PhD (Speech-Language Pathology) and two SPL colleagues was cited. Their 2020 research was on "Opportunities to learn transgender voice and communication therapy in graduate speech-language pathology education: Preliminary e-survey findings," which was published in Perspectives (August 2020).

Service Awards
