FIRE EVACUATION TRAINING
The safety committee will conduct its fall semester fire drill this week, Sept. 25-29, in the following buildings: Ambrose, Galvin, Hayes, Lewis, PE Center, McMullen and O’Keefe Library. Students should be aware this training is taking place and participation is expected. When the alarms sound evacuate through the nearest door and stand approximately 75 feet away from the building.

TIME CARDS
Staff time cards are due by noon, Monday, Sept. 25. All time cards should be turned into the General Accounting office.

ADVISING SEMINAR
Faculty and staff serving as advisors to students are invited to attend an advising seminar “Advising as Teaching,” at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26 in the Rogalski Center Ballroom. Nancy King, vice president for student success and enrollment services at Kennesaw State University, will describe advising as a teaching and learning process that includes curriculum and learning outcomes. QUERCUS
Quercus, the St. Ambrose journal of creative writing and visual art, will hold an information meeting at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26 in the Stingers Lounge, Ambrose Hall. Students interested in joining the staff and/or applying for an editorial position are encouraged to attend. Contact: Carl Herzig, ext. 6176.

OFFICE DECORATING
To celebrate Homecoming Week, faculty and staff and invited to decorate their offices to reflect this year’s Homecoming theme, “We’ve Only Just Begun.” Awards will be given to one small and one large office with the most creative decorations, which best represent the theme. BROWN BAG
“Frank Zappa Meets the Mothers of Prevention and Other Intercontinental Absurdities,” a Brown Bag presentation, will be held to commemorate Banned Books Week at noon, Thursday, Sept. 28 in the O’Keefe Library Student Lounge. Lew Sanborne will share highlights from Zappa’s testimony before Congress regarding censorship on popular music that contained “questionable content.” The event is free and open to the public. FOLWELL LECTURE
The Political Science Department, Pre-Law club, and the Pre-Law chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity are sponsoring the Folwell Lecture in Political Science and Pre-Law at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5 in the Rogalski Center Ballroom. Dr. Jean Bethke Elshtain, a political philosopher at the University of Chicago Divinity School, will examine the impact of John Courtney Murray’s ideas on modern society’s understanding of religious and political freedom in her lecture “We Hold These Truths: John Courtney Murray and the American Experiment.” The lecture is free and open to the public with a reception following.
