Hammers, Sore Muscles—and Satisfaction

Student Volunteer on Roof"The past two spring break trips have been to cold places," said Tony Belha, student volunteer and Habitat for Humanity SAU executive officer. "This year we'll really enjoy the warmth of Texas."

But make no mistake: This was not a lazing-on-the-beach spring break trip. Ten St. Ambrose students and two staff advisors traveled in vans for 15 hours in order to volunteer the entire week. They slept in a church basement, reflecting on their experiences nightly.

"It was awesome," says Tony.

The group, two male and eight female students—only six of whom had built with Habitat before—volunteered Mar. 3-7.

Trip Updates:
Day One - 'It looks like we brought the cold with us to Texas."
Day Two - "Painting, painting ... and more painting."
Day Three - "'This is my house!' said Angela, one of the partner families."
Day Four - "I put up the trim around the doorway all by myself."
