Mary McCarthy is a book artist and teacher. She spent 14 years at Phillips Academy teaching visual studies, photography and book arts. In 1992 she left teaching to focus on one of a kind and limited edition artist's books. Her works are collected in many libraries and museums: The Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles, Calif; Library of Congress, Washington, District of Columbia; Tate Britain, London, Great Britain; Houghton Library, Cambridge, Mass; Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass; and the Boston Public Library, Mass., among others. She continues teaching workshops at schools, both private and public, and has joined the faculty at Suffolk University teaching artists' books in the Graphic Design department. McCarthy co-authored "Making Books by Hand" (Rockport Publishers) and is the author of a "A Closer Look," her first children's book published in 2007.
