October is a time of intense preparation in the St. Ambrose University Theatre Department.
All members are working their hardest, whether it be on this season's upcoming children's play, participating in scenes run by student directors, or the annual tradition for new SAU thespians: Fresh Face Revue. This variety show of monologues, songs, scenes, and a group dance number helps display the many talents of the department's new and eager faces.
Fresh Face Revue is now produced by the Theatre Appreciation Club (TAC) on the SAU campus and is open to any new first-year or transfer student with an interest in theatre (no major or minor required). This year, there will be 14 acts in total specially designed to show off the ability of SAU's fresh faces.
Fresh Face Revue is not only a great opportunity for performers who are new to Ambrose; it is also an excellent opportunity for student directors to hone their skills by working with various acts and numbers for the performance. This year, there are six student directors. This experience serves as a wonderful mentorship opportunity for both the new Bees and student directors.
More seasoned SAU students serve as the show's directors and not only help direct first years in their scenes, but also in navigating life within the Theatre Department and the SAU campus as a whole. It is a great chance for fresh faces to understand what SAU theatre is all about.
"This is the biggest group of performers we've had for this event in awhile," said TAC director Luke Peterson. "There is a good spread of comic and dramatic pieces, and we have a lot of new, strong performers who are eager to showcase their talents."
The Fresh Face Revue will take place at 7 p.m., October 18 in the Allaert Auditorium. Admission is free. It is sure to be an excellent show and is an opportunity that shouldn't be missed.
"Please come out and support all of our newbies! It means a lot to us and to them as they start their work as performers here at St. Ambrose," TAC stage manager Ellie Larson said.
