One of the many perks of the St. Ambrose University Theatre Department is that people are able to try their hand at many different aspects of theatre.
Senior Anthony Duckett, from Lansing, Illinois is a wonderful example of that. Duckett, a Theatre major with a minor in Arts Administration, originally came to SAU to be an actor. However, since then, he has had great success in multiple areas such as lighting design, directing, and scenic construction.
Throughout his college journey, Duckett has made many fond memories. However, one of his favorite parts of being involved with the SAU Theatre Department was participating in all of the fun events at the annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. One of his favorite events is the Tech Team Showdown, as Duckett has been a member of the SAU Tech Team since his first year at SAU. More specifically, one of the most memorable moments for Duckett at KCACTF was winning the Spirit Award for Tech Team Showdown his sophomore year.
"Winning the Spirit Award has to be my favorite memory," Duckett said. "I truly feel like that team was a family and winning the award with them meant even more, because it wasn't just a win for our tech-team family, but the rest of our Ambrose crowd."

Anthony was part of the 2018 Tech Team as a freshman that won the Golden Wrench Award at KCACTF.
Looking forward, Duckett has not yet decided where his future will take him post-graduation. 2020 has certainly been an eye-opening year for society, and with the theatre industry on shaky ground for the time being, Duckett wants to use his voice in any way he can.
"More and more, I am realizing that I don't necessarily want to go straight into the theatre industry right after graduating," said Duckett. "I have been very involved in politics with everything going on this year, and I've been thinking about working on political campaigns in the future. There are major issues going on in our world at the moment, and I want to help in any way I can."
Lastly, when asked about what advice he wished he would've been given when he was a first-year student, Duckett gave these words of wisdom.
"I would say that I wished I'd known that I didn't have to worry so much about the opportunities I didn't necessarily get right out of the gate," Duckett said. "I would often times get worried about not getting cast in certain shows. But, it all worked out for me because not getting those opportunities allowed me to explore other aspects of theatre that I really ended up enjoying."
There is no doubt that Duckett will find success in whatever career path he chooses moving forward. The Department is proud of the growth he has shown over his time here and is eager to see where his life journey will take him post-graduation!
