SAU Engineering Club

Run by St. Ambrose University students with faculty advisors from the Engineering Department, the Engineering Club gives students opportunities to learn and grow outside of the classroom through academic support, volunteering, social interaction, professional networking, and managing and implementing a unique project.

In October 2016, students voted the Engineering Club as Club of the Month and wrote this about the club: Engineering Club is awesome! They have been working really hard to involve their students both academically and socially. They hosted a Walking Taco night with Professor Trivia to relax after studying. They also are taking available members to Zombie Paintball to get into the Halloween spirit. Study nights with snacks help the students work together and get them through some of their difficult classes. They have also done a wonderful job continuously recruting new students by partnering with other clubs.

Academic Support
To support student success in the classroom, Engineering Club hosts pizza and study nights throughout the year. Students of all levels participate so that they can work together and ask questions when needed.

Volunteering
The club volunteers for many events around campus and the Quad Cities community including:

  • Bee the Difference Day
  • Introduce a Girl to Engineering Night
  • Engineering Trivia Night

Social Interaction
Along with giving students academic and networking experiences, the Engineering Club incorporates social activities as well. Engineering Club has hosted:

  • laser tag
  • zombie paintball
  • ice skating
  • cookouts
  • modular bowling

Professional Networking
The Club has organized tours of local companies and participated in several Quad Cities Engineering and Science Council (QCESC) events including:

  • Bridge Building competition
  • Engineer's Week banquet

Project
The 2015-16 project was designing and building a quadcopter. Club members managed the project; obtained funding; and designed, implemented, and built the software and hardware.
