St. Ambrose University offers a range of services to promote student development and college success. Despite the availability of these services, students do not always connect to them.
Early Alert and Care Reports were developed to intentionally and systematically respond to students who may be struggling. The campus community and our partners (family members) can learn more about this resource below.
Submit an Early Alert or Care Report
Information shared at Early Alert Council does not become part of any student record and is not disciplinary in nature. Any outreach to students is done in a respectful and discreet manner. The Council's sole focus is early detection and outreach to students who may be having difficulty or are at-risk in some way.
Any member of the SAU community who knows of a student in suicidal crisis should contact the Counseling Center at x6423 or 563-333-6423 or Security at x6104 or 563-333-6104.

Early Alert communicates that you have identified a student who has academic difficulty or is at-risk of not being successful in degree completion. In addition, it is highly recommended that faculty and staff use the Early Alert system to give accolades to a student for their success.
Care Reports communicate to the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) that a student is struggling with behavioral issues. BIT members include Security, Counseling, Retention, Residence Life, and is led by the Dean of Students.
Benefits of Early Alert and Outreach
- Identification of appropriate means of intervention while issues are not yet in a critical state.
- Follow-up with student facilitating connectedness, a genuine sense of care and awareness of resources.
- Proactive identification of students in need of additional support or who may be in crisis. Crisis situations may be personal, physical, emotional/psychological, interpersonal, academic, or spiritual in nature.
