St. Ambrose University

Youth Leadership Program

Program Components

Leadership, Media and Politics

Each section is led by an experienced professor who holds a PhD in his or her field. Two days will be devoted to each component.

Students will learn about leadership as a set of skills and behaviors that influence followers. Leadership should be viewed not as a position, but as a learned activity that can be used by anyone regardless of their position. In helping the students to develop an ability to positively influence others, we will focus on political influence by using the media and a variety of other techniques.

The week begins with an orientation July 12 and a welcome banquet with a noted speaker in the evening. As the week concludes, Saturday, July 19, students will synthesize their disparate insights and knowledge, present their DVD recordings, receive their graduation awards, and celebrate with new friends.

When the YLP experience concludes, students will take home a new understanding of how they can lead others in a variety of settings and through a number of different media ranging from the purely personal to the use of contemporary mass electronic means.

College Credit

Upon successful completion of the program, each participant will be awarded 3 college credits in political science.
