St. Ambrose University will introduce an Athletic Bands Program in the fall of 2016, Sister Joan Lescinski, CSJ, PhD, has announced.
Starting out as a stadium band, the ensemble will expand to a marching band by fall 2018, performing at home football games, playoffs and community events. When fully developed, the marching band may have more than 100 members.
"Few universities our size offer their students the opportunity to perform in a marching band," Sr. Joan said. "The band will provide another way for students in all academic disciplines to connect and build relationships while making music together in a liberal arts environment."
As with other St. Ambrose bands and choirs, the athletic band will be open to all students regardless of major. Participation will provide additional scholarship opportunities for students. Are you interested in joining Marching Band? Click here.
Though not planned for fall 2016 and 2017, a flag corps or color guard may be considered if there is enough interest.
"The presence of a marching band will also enhance our game day environment," Sr. Joan said. "I am very appreciative of the good work done by Bill Campbell, PhD, Music Department chair, and Ray Shovlain '79, '82 MBA, the athletic director, in bringing this idea to fruition. Nick Enz, PhD, band faculty member in the Music Department, will be the point of contact as we develop the athletic band."
