The Finance Club visited the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) earlier this month. Fourteen students took a tour of two trade floors and learned about many types of trading markets.
"It's a great experience for them to learn about these trading markets in the classroom and then go see them in action on the floor," said Imtiaz Mazumder, PhD, Associate Professor of Finance.
Finance Club President Joe Marconi said the trip was a really eye-opening experience. "The biggest lesson I learned was that not everything is set in stone," Marconi said. "The world of business changes a lot, so people in this world need to be prepared to adapt."
Marconi said that the trading pits used to have more than 4,000 people working on the floor every day, but today that number is close to 400.
Finance Club Secretary Zachery Cinotto said it was interesting to see the trading pits in person. "I have seen all the chaos and yelling in the movies, but it was very intriguing to witness it first-hand."
Overall, everyone really enjoyed the trip and learned a lot. "The Chicago Board Options Exchange gave us a fabulous tour and provided a lot of useful information," Cinotto said.
