First-year student Mary Rose Prosinski has already graced the Allaert stage as the Witch in the first fall main stage production of Big Fish, and let me tell you, the girl has pipes!
As a first year, being cast in a main stage production - especially a big musical - is impressive. She donned a gray wig and beautiful silver dress (designed by Dianne Dye) as she climbed the stairs and wailed "Know What You Want." This caused the entire atmosphere of the auditorium to shift. Prosinski can sing, dance, and act! Plus, she has a witty, fun personality and a true passion for performance. What's not to love?
Prosinski is from Peru, Illinois, and a theatre major. She started in theatre when she was nine by going to camps at her local theatre in LaSalle, Illinois, called Stage 212.
"I did the camps, went through their children's program, and moved on to being featured on the main stage," Prosinski said about her theatre roots.
Most recently, she was cast as the Rose (a fitting title) in The Little Prince, which is SAU's annual children's show this season. Prosinski is one of the only first years to be in both main stage fall shows this year.
"I cannot wait to be in The Little Prince since this will be such a different kind of experience for me. I've never worked with a puppet before, so I am so excited to continue the rehearsal process!" Prosinski said.
Prosinski also performed in SAU's Fresh Face Revue this year. She performed "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from Jesus Christ Superstar. She delivered the performance with true emotion and intent. Honestly, the Department doesn't know how NOT to love her.
Her favorite role to date has been Bebe Benzenheimer in A Chorus Line.
"I made some of my best friends that summer, and I love how much dancing that show has," Prosinski said. "My dream role is Reno Sweeny in Anything Goes. I love the music in that show, and the tap dancing is so much fun."
She hopes her time at Ambrose will help her start pursuing her dream.
"I hope to improve my overall performance as an actor, and I can't wait to do that here at Ambrose," she said.
Come see Prosinski this December in The Little Prince at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on December 7 in the Galvin Fine Arts Center. All tickets are $10, and students get in free with a valid ID. Purchase tickets online
It's safe to say St. Ambrose has acquired a triple threat, and the Department couldn't be happier.
