Lindsey Ekblad

ARC Director

Lindsey is the director of the ARC and reports to the Associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.  Lindsey manages the day-to-day operations of the ARC, has a caseload of students (mostly nursing students), and advises the campus community regarding disability policy, law, and procedures. She works closely with every department within the university and serves on several committees in an advisory capacity. She also currently serves as the Treasurer for the regional AHEAD affiliate, ILLOWA, a group of professionals who work in the field of disability in higher education.

How long have you been at Ambrose and why do you stay?

I am a '04 and '08 alum of our Psychology and Education programs. I have been at the ARC since 2017 and previously worked at the Children's Campus. Things have changed so much over the years but the caliber of the people has remained the same. I stay because I get to work with those people. They are faculty who see the value of disability as diversity in their classroom and staff with hearts of gold who work hard for our students.

Why do you do this job?

I am a first gen college grad with more than one disabling condition.  College was not easy for me and I really struggled to figure out what I "wanted to be when I grew up".   I did not plan to end up doing this work but every choice I made paved the road to the ARC and I love the work I get to do. I do this job because I am able to use my strengths and passion for advocacy to create an Ambrose that is inclusive for students with disabilities.
