More About Matt

Matt Hansen joined the St. Ambrose family more than 19 years ago. Many in the St. Ambrose and surrounding community are familiar with his ready smile and his abundance of energy.

He grew up in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and is a graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. He then worked for the University of Wisconsin-Superior for three years, followed by both employment and graduate studies at the University of Maine, where he earned his master's degree in Student Development in Higher Education Administration.

In 1999, Matt and his young family moved back to the midwest where he accepted a position at St. Ambrose University as the Director of Residence Life and Housing. This was followed by a promotion to Assistant Dean of Students in addition to his Director position.

He was recently promoted to Interim Dean of Students for the 2018-2019 academic year where his love of new challenges and his inherent drive to foster growth and progress, both on campus and in the surrounding community, will reflect the values of St. Ambrose well.

Matt is married to Jayme, whom he met during his student years at Macalester, and together they have two children: Hannah- currently a college student, and Jacob- a high school student.

Matt's passion is working with students and he feels humbled by the privilege of witnessing their growth and development during their time here. He enthusiastically works with his team to create a friendly and inclusive campus community for all Ambrosians. He warmly welcomes you to SAU. Go Bees!
